Level 4 >> Post 10 (week 13): English Language Challenges

Hello everyone. This will be my last post, I hope you like it.

My experience with English was good when I was little, since I always liked music in English, but over the years I lost the motivation to learn the language in depth. This is because I did not have good English teachers and I did not receive enough motivation. Also because I did not like the American accent I heard on TV. This accent I only liked in music.

I think that learning English opens up many important possibilities in the workplace and personal. Apart from being able to travel and to know different countries, being able to understand and handle a language like English reinforces the cognitive abilities of each one when expressing oneself.

During college it has been a bit boring, because I started at a very low level, since we had previous knowledge to the difference of my classmates. Over time I realized the importance of knowing the language for the professional career. I came across many texts in English that I should understand and apply in my learning.

For the next few years I intend to devote special attention to my speaking, since that is the most difficult thing for me but I think it is also the most fun part. After handling the speaking I will enter the grammar, the most boring part for me, but nevertheless, very necessary to learn.

By having more time next year, I think it will be easier to devote special interest to English, maybe attending a course or practicing with my friends. I hope this course has been very helpful for me.

LEVEL 4 / POST 9

Hello. There are many aspects that I would change in my career...

In the first place, I consider that the theoretical subjects are really bad. The students know very little about art history because the themes start from modern art and not all the previous history is considered, so the knowledge is very basic for a university artist. I think one of the big deficits is theoretical knowledge, which is directly related to artistic making. This is increased by the lack of a library available to all students. There are collections that not every student has access to, which I find embarrassing coming from such an important university. Nobody imagines that in a faculty there is no library, it seems absurd.

Another aspect of the mesh of my career, plastic arts, is the lack of specialized workshops in photography, video, "new media" or design. The career focus is still too traditional, with several traditional painting and sculpture workshops without addressing contemporary problems. It feels like returning to the past, in the worst sense.

Finally, related to the above, is the little implication of the visual arts with other disciplines. knowledge is very segmented, being that when dialoguing with other disciplines art is further enhanced.

In terms of infrastructure, I consider it a rather precarious space but with many possibilities. It is very broad and I think we should appropriate the spaces that we have (and that private universities do not have). I think this is the only thing that we have left and we have to take care of it.

LEVEL 4 / POST 8 : NEXT Holidays

Hello everyone!

On vacation I would like to travel to some beach in the V region. Most likely, is that I travel to Ventana with my sisters, brothers and my aunt. On this beach, we vacationed with my father two years ago and also, when I and my sisters were small, we went regularly to Ventana on holidays.

The best of this place is the calm tide. I really like to swim a lot, so it would be impossible to do it on other more dangerous beaches. This is the most important thing for me when I vacation at a beach: it's suitable for swimming. I don't like too much sunbathing and less sleep on the beach. I prefer to enjoy the water and swim with my younger brother. At night I like to go for a walk or ride a bike, but the heat of the sand is not my favorite part.

A friend of my father rents cabins in Ventana and this year we are invited to vacation there. I really want to go there, because this year has been very intense and we need to de-stress and enjoy tranquility together. It's also a place that brings back beautiful memories of my father.

Another place where I would like to go is Frutillar. I love this city. It's really beautiful and clean. I really like the south of Chile, but I only know some cities of the X Region. However, I want to visit this city in particular by the atmosphere containing: here I spent the best holiday ever. So I want to go back to observe places that I've been forgetting over the years.

I hope to raise the money for this vacation and have a well-deserved rest.

LEVEL 4 / POST 7: My favourite movie or T.V serie

Hello, today I will write about my favourite movie. Well, I don't have a favourite movie because I love cinema and it's impossible for me to have a favorite movie, so I chose a film at random from among those fascinated me.

The movie that I chose is Les 400 coups (The 400 blows, 1959) of  François Truffaut. This is a wonderful movie that I saw in the summer of this year. The story moved me a lot despite not knowing films of this director. The story is about a little boy who is not wanted by his family, his mother and stepfather, so he begins to have conflicts in school and then with his own mother. The movie shows us the mischief of the child he performs, showing the bad luck that he has when falling into problems despite never having bad intentions.

Maybe the history is like a caricature, however the way the director presents the pictures is beautiful and I absolutely recommend it. It's very cute and funny at the same time, like the life of a child and his mischief. The film shows a good guy who is easily distracted but retains a nobility with their peers. The empathy with Antoine (the protagonist) is the main factor of charm in the film, since this shows us the multiple blows that it receives and he must cope.

LEVEL 4 / POST 6 - POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

Hello, today I'll talk about my "post graduate studies".

After obtaining my university degree, I would like to continue my studies abroad. The main reason why I want to study outside Chile is because in this country education is terribly bad and very expensive. For this reason, my main interest lies in finding a country where you can have a good quality of life without going hungry haha.

The idea of studying a post-graduate degree doesn't appeal to me too much, but it's the closest option within the possibilities that are given to the students. So I've been researching on postgrades in medial arts. The reason I'm interested in medial arts is because of the concerns I have about art and technology. I really like digital imaging and its expanded field, I think it's a subject in which I can work for a long time.

The countries that interest me are Portugal and Spain, although I am more interested in the latter. This is because language is a very important factor, and because both, equally, are countries with high standards of quality in education. If I succeeded in a year to learn English very well, I would very much like to study in Germany. I think it's the best place to study arts.

For now, I will be concentrating on my present so that I can fulfill my expectations in the future....

LEVEL 4 / POST 5 "My future job"

Hello, today I'll write about my future job...

I'd like to have a job outside the country, because in Chile the salaries are very low and the working hours are too long. So the most important thing in a job for me is the time available in which I don't work: I only take my time in my own living.

First of all, I hope to be able to study in the academy as long as possible, since I think that student status is quite comfortable (I think), or at least until now, since State generally helps to finance basic needs. In other countries this is a little easier. 

I don't know what kind of job I want. Ideally, it would be great to be able to earn money doing what I like or having a job related to it. As an artist, I think that the variety of work (part time) is broad, in all the experiences is gained something profitable, its depends on a series of small particular details of each work. 

Natural light is important for me. I have had many jobs and I have noticed that the artificial light disturbs the view and the perception of the things of considerable way. In my future job would be ideal to work in a comfortable environment with natural light to take care of my sight that is very important. It's also essential to have a job that doesn't harm my body. I'm not willing to put my body at risk for money.

As you can see, I have nothing in mind. At least for now, I will be selling small crafts that I have in mind when the academic year ends. This idea excites me because I've been saving beautiful material to work on this :)

LEVEL 4 / POST 4

Hello teacher and classmates! Then I will write to you about my favorite technological device: my computer. 

I got my computer 2 years ago. It was a used device but it was in perfection condition because the seller, a friend of my sister, is dedicated to fixing computers. When I saw the computer I felt very happy to be my first personal computer that I bought. Although, I didn't buy it with my salary. I bought it with money from the state of my scholarship, so this made my feel much better.

I use my computer for everything, even for my work. It's a very complete device since I use it in moments of relaxation, like listening to music or watch a movie, or working for the university, using information online.

What I like least is the weight of this device. The materiality of my computer isn't light because is a little old, so it's not too convenient to transport it.

I don't have any picture of my computer but I will describe its characteristics. My computer are black and rectangular/square with corners not too much roud, like the new computers or tablets. And this... a very sober device.

LEVEL 4, post n°3

Hello classmates. Today I'd like to write about a very special picture. This picture was taken the summer of 2016 for my father in Horcón.

The reason for I love this picture is because my father used as wallpaper in his cellphone and I think that this gesture of tenderness shows the love he felt for us, his children. I have three sisters and two brothers. Here are my younger sister and brother. In those vacation we stayed on a very beautiful house in Ventana, for a week. It was the first occasion in several years that we were all together on vacation.

It's sad but this was the last trip he did with all his children. My father suddenly died three weeks ago when he was fifty one years old. He doesn´t appear in this image but the essence of he is present. He loved taking pictures to his family (and himself).

Personally, I prefer not to yearn past times but I use these images as a way to remember with love to my family. The most beautiful of family photographs is that it allows us to face memories that we thought were forgotten.

LEVEL 4, post n°1

Hello. I am going to write about a country that I would like to visit: Russia.

Is very funny, because I don't know too much about the culture of that country but for me Russia always caught my attention for his geographics dimensions. When I was a child I wanted to know this country so big that it was on the map.

Now, without knowing too much more, continues to attract my attention. Maybe because is a country really different to Chile.

First, I would like to visit some not so touristy city like Moscow. I'm interested in meeting small towns or cities with different landscapes like Sochi. Sochi is a special Russian city that has a subtropical climate, so it has beautiful mountains and sandy beaches. I would really like to know that city.

European countries have a very strong historical identity, so it is impossible to overlook the legacy, at least cultural, of Russia. It would be great touring museums and galleries on Russian Constructivism! 

Well, I don't know if I want to live there ... I think don't. Language is important and I'm comfortable, obviously, with Romance languages.

LEVEL 4, post n°2

Hello everyone!

Today I will write about the best concert that I ever been to. It was a festival called Primavera Fauna. This event happened in November of 2014 in Espacio Broadway, a very beautiful place. The site was very large: you can lie on the grass while listening to the music or standing near one of three scenarios. In that opportunity I was been with three friends and nobody came with a camera so I can not boast my experience with a picture but I will show you some images that I found on different webs...

The band that most yearned to listen was Tame Ampala and defenitely was the best presentation of the day. The sound was amazing. Also other bands were particularly good: Real Estate, Pond and Mogwai.

Well, for me PF is a sophisticated and expensive festival, so the only free thing was the coconut drink Kokisimo. I don't know what I would have done without this juice because it is very tiring to spend a day moving in a space with many people around. I usually go to "tocatas" that last a couple of hours but going to a festival was a very entertaining experience for me :)

Blogging experience

Hello everyone. I hope you are well. Today I will write my last post on the blog.

I'd like to write about my experience of writing and reading on the blog and also how this experience increase a little bit my interest for English :)

Well, in my opinion, write about our own interests, makes learning a language more interesting because it is easer to talk or write about something you like it, like your career, your opinion about something that concerns you, your hobbies, etc.

It was interesting to read the blogs of my classmates. Each one has different opinions and interests. In my case, I enjoyed the experience and I will try to continue blogging so that I can practice, maybe on a private blog because my english isn't very good yet.

One negative aspect, perhaps is that we don't practice listening in English on the blog (except once) because listening is the most difficult ítem for me. Out of this, creating a blog seems like a good idea to learn English at the University. The important thing is that it doesn't become an academic burden! Rather, be a help tool :)

Hello everyone! Today I will talking about Swimming. Well, I choose this topic because I love swimming and I haven't been able to swim for a long time.

For me, swim is very relaxing because the water is comfortable, and I can move with tranquility. Also, the swimsuit allow flexibity for excercise.

Swimming is an individual or grupal sport that takes places in pools or in open-water. I prefer the pool because I like to swim in one direction for can concentrate. In competitive swimming, exist four major styles have been stablished. They are butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Backstroke and butterfly are my favorite styles, although this latter style, it requires more cardio training.

I think Swimming is one of the most complete sports. All parts of the body come in motion on the water and the muscles are exercised simultaneously and the muscles are exercised simultaneously, with very little chance of fracture or causing any damage to the body.

The movement and shift through water are so recreative if you only want practices for entertainment!

Hello classmates! Today, I'd like to present you this image. On previous posts I wrote about my holidays in Frutillar and the photograph is from that period. In this image I appear with my father, the man who extends his hands, and my older sister Michelle with a pink swimsuit.

This picture was taken in 2005 and curiously, I don't know who took it. We were walking along the lake with no one else... maybe, in that day my father came to the lake also with his friends.

Well, I love this picture because I think the scene is very magic. This little isle was entire beautiful for me. To get there, I had to swim a lot because it was not very close from the sand. In the picture, the isle looks as if is it very close to camera but is because the picture is cropped. I have the original photograph in an album on my house. Is for this that the resolution of the image is not very well, but I think the register captures the essence of that moment.
